Welcome to Reception!

In Reception we love to learn by exploring and investigating through hands on activities. This helps us to develop our own thoughts and feelings about the world around us. It is important for us to share, show love and kindness towards each other.

The class teachers are Mrs Kenny & Mrs Pickup, and the class teaching assistant is Mrs Stockburn.

These are the end of year expectations for EYFS children. Children will either achieve the Early Learning Goals (Expected), or be working towards them (Emerging):

If you want to ask anything or send any photographs please email ourschool@cliviger.com.

Each week we will put on the activities which the children will be learning in class. This will help you as parents to reinforce the work which we have covered in class. So for example if we were learning about money you could practise using coins whilst out shopping, when learning about 2D shapes you might hunt for them on a family walk, etc.

Week Beginning 5th January:

Numeracy - We are looking at the numbers 0-5, recognising and representing them.

Literacy - This week we are beginning our new class novel Naughty Bus, and we will be recreating roles and experiences through role play. Over the next few weeks there will be incidents in the classroom caused by Naughty Bus, to inspire the children to write and mark make.

RE - We are beginning our new topic of ‘Stories Jesus Heard’, and think about the stories we enjoy listening to.

Understanding the World - We are exploring floating and sinking.

Expressive Arts and Design - We are going to explore colour mixing, in particular looking at the primary colours.

To foster a love of reading, your child can start to bring in their favourite story books for our ‘Recommendation Station’, which we will read at story time to the class.

This is the patter for how we write numerals:

Have a look on this link to find out more about phonics which helps your child to read and write. We follow the ‘Red Rose’ programme to teach phonics.

Below is a link to a website to read about how you can improve your child’s vocabulary at home. There is a strong emphasis on language and communication in the new EYFS curriculum, so please take time to read this.  We would also recommend that you read to your child every night in order to develop their language and vocabulary.
