Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome to Year 6. It is a really important year this year with lots of firsts and lasts. We are all really looking forward to what the year has to bring and to working together again! Children will have lots of roles and responsibilities and these will be given during the course of the year.
We will always try our best to provide lots of opportunities and ensure all of the children in our care are happy, safe and loved. We can’t wait to create so many memories this year.
There are lots of links on this webpage to different areas for homework, spellings and having a look at what we are getting up to in class. These will be updated regularly. Please see the meet the teacher video and powerpoint for additional information!

Welcome to the reading section of the year 6 webpage. Children are encouraged to read every night and have their homework diary signed by an adult. It is expected that homework diaries are brought in each Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child’s reading book is also sent in with their homework diaries so that we can monitor the frequency of the books been read and changed.
Below are some questions stems to use when reading with your child. They will really support your child's understanding of the text.
Question Stems
In Key Stage 2, children are given weekly homework to enrich their experiences of the curriculum and consolidate learning. Homework will be a literacy or maths task or something relating to the current topic. Homework will be set on Friday on the class page of the school website and the children will need to return their homework folder the following Thursday with the work inside. The homework folder will be marked by a member of staff before returning. If your child is finding a set piece challenging, please let us know before the Thursday it is due in. This will ensure that the children are able to complete the piece and build their confidence.
Weekly spelling will be uploaded to this section. Children should practice these ready for the following Friday. We encourage children to read every night and for them to talk about their books with you and what they have read. This greatly helps their understanding of texts. We appreciate that people also have busy lives too, therefore we expect that children are reading and practising times tables 5 out of 7 nights per week. Reading records will be checked and signed on a Tuesday and Thursday by a member of staff. Please sign every time your child reads.
If your child has not completed reading and/or homework they will be staying in at break time the day their homework diaries are checked. This is to ensure the children are in good habits for high school and are taking responsibility.
